Iridology is the study of the eye or iris.
The iris is a tool which can provide information about the health condition of the body. This is revealed through changes in the colour and structure of the iris fibres, in specific zones of your iris. This is done by carefully examining your iris and matching it to iris charts. Using these charts, can help identify systems and organs in your body that may be inflamed, or over or underactive.
An iridology examination is not undertaken to diagnose specific diseases – however it is a helpful tool in the naturopathic consultation to give an indication of your systemic strengths or weaknesses, and what may need further investigation.
How does Iridology work?
In iridology one way of assessing the condition of the body and its tissues is by examining the eye for discolouration, such as light and dark areas, streaks or patches, cloudy areas or spots. For example the colour in area of the eye that relates to digestive organs will indicate what specific processes need help to improve functioning.
As the body heals itself through the naturopathic health plan the spots on the iris often fade and the overall look and clarity of the iris changes.
The texture of the iris shows the body’s constitution we are born with. A strong constitution will look like silk, the fibre pattern will be straight and the structure packed tightly together. A person with a strong constitution have good recuperative ability. A weaker constitution will have a rougher texture like hessian where there are many separations between the fibres and holes are present. The difference is that an inherently strong constitution usually repairs and rejuvenates itself faster after an illness. than a person with a weak constitution.
